Gabriele Niederauer, PhD
CEO and President
Gabi joined BVT in September 2014 as CEO & President. Gabi has more than 25 years of experience in the study, development and commercialization of devices for orthopedic, sports medicine, dental and ENT. Previously, she was SVP of Technology & Development and a founding officer of ENTrigue Surgical, Inc., where her team developed commercially viable implants and instruments for otolaryntology. The company was acquired in 2013 by ArthroCare Corporation, which was subsequently purchased by Smith&Nephew. Gabi was also on the management team of Concept to Market Medical, which developed a unique shoulder anchor acquired by Tornier., Inc. Prior to that, Gabi served as Director of R&D at OsteoBiologics, Inc. launching a dozen new products / product line extensions and worked with key opinion leading surgeons in arthroscopy and cartilage repair. OBI was acquired by Smith&Nephew, Inc. Gabi completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory at UTHSCSA. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University, a Masters of Science degree in Materials Science and Biomedical Engineering from Iowa State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University.
Mark Horsey, MBA
Financial and Accounting Advisor
Mark provides fractional financial advising services and supports emerging companies with financial model development, strategic financial planning, as well as general accounting and operations support. Mark began his consulting practice in October of 2011. Prior to that, Mark was with Genzyme Corporation in San Antonio, most recently serving as Director of Finance for San Antonio Operations and Genzyme’s multiple sclerosis business unit. Prior to joining Genzyme, Mark held various finance and accounting leadership rolls with Dell Computer based in Round Rock, Texas. Mark received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.B.A. from Saint Edward’s University with a specialization in finance.
Dan Beney
Vice-President of Sales
Dan has more than 35 years of experience in senior sales leadership positions within the medical device industry. Prior to joining Bluegrass Vascular, Dan served as Vice President of Sales at Avenu Medical (acquired by Medtronic), Vice President of Focal Therapeutics (acquired by Hologic), Vice President of International Sales and Business Development at Cianna Medical (acquired by Merit Medical), Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Intact Medical Corporation (acquired by Medtronic), and as the National Sales Manager for the Breast Care division of Johnson & Johnson (formerly Biopsys Medical). In addition, Dan has also held executive management positions with Conceptus, Neurometrix and Scimed Life Systems. Dan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Advertising from Michigan State University.
Jay McElhenney
Director of Quality and Manufacturing
Jay has worked 35+ years in the medical device industry primarily in manufacturing operations, quality assurance, and new product commercialization. His career included positions with Johnson & Johnson Ethicon Endo-Surgery and KCI. His most recent corporate position was 6+ years with Vidacare, a successful medical device start-up and growth company focusing on intraosseous vascular access and bone biopsy devices. Jay was part of the leadership team in the positions of Director, Product Quality and Commercialization Services and Vice President, Manufacturing and Quality. He played a significant role in the acquisition of the business to Teleflex and the subsequent integration. Jay left his position at Vidacare / Teleflex to start Guadalupe Bend Consulting, focusing on working with startup medical device companies providing support in the areas of quality, operations and new product commercialization. He has successfully led the quality system conversion to ISO 13485:2016, achieving MDSAP certifications and implementation of the new EU Medical Device Regulation. Jay holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Colorado.
Laura Minarsch, RT, RCIS, CVT
Clinical Affairs
Laura Minarsch is a senior clinical affairs strategist and President of MMC Medical International Services. She consults for several novel innovative device companies in the MedTech space and has facilitated numerous acquisitions over her career spanning more than 25 years. Her track record is based on successful and strategically planned “First in Human” submissions and clinical studies in Europe, Canada, South America, New Zealand / Australia. She has been instrumental in defining key scientific relationships with opinion leaders and a strategic partners. Additionally she has achieved several record critical project timelines resulting in optimized operations and realized corporate objectives. Laura began her career as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, and Interventional Cardiovascular Specialist implementing several first interventional device programs in Europe. Laura has served as a Principal Senior Clinical Affairs Advisor to several medical device companies. Larry Yost, RPh
Market Access Advisor
Larry has over 30 years experience for domestic and international medical device, pharmaceutical, and molecular diagnostic companies. Larry assists BVT with strategic market development and tactical marketing. Prior to founding The Atticus Group, Larry was the VP of Sales and Marketing at Expanding Orthopedics, Inc., a start-up medical device company focused on the development of innovative spinal implant. Previously, Larry was Director of Marketing at Salient Surgical Technologies, an early stage company with a proprietary radiofrequency technology used to reduce blood loss during total joint replacement, spine surgery, and solid organ resection. Before joining Salient, Larry was Director of Marketing at Vasca, Inc., a medical device company with innovative implantable dialysis-access technology. Prior to his time at Vasca, Larry was a member of the global marketing team at Baxter Healthcare’s Renal Division where his focus was the development of clinical marketing programs supporting the company’s dialysis product lines in the U.S., Japan, Asia, and Europe. Larry began his career in pharmaceutical sales at The Upjohn Company followed by several differing roles within the Company’s Medical Sciences Liaison organization. Larry is a graduate of the Purdue University School of Pharmacy and currently maintains his Pharmacist license in the State of Indiana.
Donna Hunt
Business Manager
Donna joined the company in 2017, bringing over 25 years of financial and operational experience in various industries. Donna manages several components of BVT’s business, including accounting, customer service, human resources, logistics, document control and facility management. Prior to joining BVT, she worked primarily in banking for Wells Fargo and Frost Bank. Donna has a Technical Degree in Court Reporting from Capitol City Careers in Austin, Texas.
